How do I setup my auction event?

How do I prepare for an auction event?

Your advertising sales force will call on the merchants in your community, and explain the concept of an on-line newspaper auction. Each merchant will agree to place a certain number of items into your auction's inventory, knowing that they are in essence bartering their merchandise in exchange for advertising space in your newspaper -- each piece of their inventory that sells in the auction turns into "free" ads for their business. In addition, of course, the merchant will see increased foot traffic (and increased sales) as a result of people coming into the store to view the auction items.

When your sales force has completed the selling process, you will start promoting the auction in your newspaper. In addition to placing an ad for the auction in each edition of the paper, many papers find it effective to print a separate insert section that explains the auction concept, lists all the fine print details, and includes photos and descriptions of each item being sold.

At the same time that you are promoting the upcoming auction event in your newspaper, you will also be entering the data into the auction inventory. See below on this page for details on how that is done.

Here's an example of the kind of schedule you might setup for an auction event:

August 1 - 31 Sell to merchants -- get committments on items to be auctioned.
September 1 - 22 Promote the auction in the newspaper, enter auction data.
September 23 Auction starts.
October 1 Auction ends.

How do I load the data for my auction event?

We give you a username and a password. You use that information to log into the administrative section of your auction website.

Once you have logged in, you are presented with a menu that includes choices for adding items, advertisers, and item categories.

It's a simple matter of filling in forms with the necessary data.

Can I feature certain items on the website's home page?

Yes. The edit screen for each item in your auction inventory includes a "feature this item" option. Set that option to 'yes', and the item will be featured on the home page. Every 60 seconds, the home page automatically refreshes, displaying a different featured item.
