Licensing and running the system

What do I get when I buy a license?

You get a perpetual license for use of the auction system. You can run as many auction events as you want, as frequently as you want.

Will the software be installed on my computer?
No. The auction system software runs on our web server.

Can people access the auction from my newspaper's website?

Yes. Although the auction software runs on Arista Technologies' web server, you can brand the auction with your domain name. For example, you can tell people to go to www.mynewspaper.com/auction and they will end up on your auction website.

Can I make changes to the software source code?

No. The license you purchase is a usage license, and does not give you access to the source code of the auction software. However, we are always happy to enhance the system to meet your needs and the needs of our other customers.

Can other newspapers owned by my parent company use my license?

No. A license is for use by a single newspaper. Each newspaper must purchase its own license. Discounts are available for multiple license purchases. Contact us for details.

Can I re-sell my license, or "share" it with another paper?
No. The license you buy is for your newspaper only, with no rights for re-licensing, sub-licensing, or license sale.

Can I view your license contract language?
Yes. Our standard license contract can be viewed here. Many of our clients find this agreement acceptable as-is. If, however, you would like the agreement modified, we will be happy to consider making the changes you request.

What if you, at some point in the future, get out of the auction business?
If, for any reason, Arista Technologies leaves the on-line newspaper auction business, every license owner will have access to all of the computer files and documentation needed in order to run the auction system.

What software is used to run the system?
The Arista Technologies on-line newspaper auction system is written using industry standard tools: PHP, MySQL, and the Apache web server, all running under the BSD Unix operating system.
