How can community development efforts provide citizens with what they really want: (1) healthy, physical, and cultural environments and (2) growth of family-wage jobs with organizations that enhance global and natural capital by their operations? RMI’s Economic Renewal model for sustainable community development, based on the principles of Natural Capitalism, is a whole-system, citizen-empowerment approach. The workshop will address community-scale economic development and renewal strategies, including an introduction to Green Development of real estate, and planning for the transition to a more sustainable energy system. Sustainable communities can begin planning how to reduce reliance on carbon-based energy such as fossil fuels and make the transition to hydrogen energy created by solar or hydropower. |
